Look, let's acknowledge it--Peter Jackson made New Zealand into one of the world's cultural epicenters of quality film-making and storytelling. New Zealand is already beating American film in terms of quality and production. Americans will only fall farther and farther behind artistically if the corporate stranglehold on film production, and commercial art in general, is not removed completely.
George Lucas is an independent film maker, ladies and germs--the most successful one in history, might I add. So if I, as an artist, are going to follow a business model, why would I not follow the most rewarding one in terms of both creativity and financing. Not only would I be loving what I do but would be reaping an amazing reward for simply telling people stories that they, intrinsically, already know.
And, in case you didn't know, Lucas's secret to storytelling can be found in my own master's opus The Hero with a Thousand Faces by Joseph Campbell
Here's a Jedi lesson for the day: Find your masters in life, pick their brains until they're empty and then move on to their masters. Soon, you will be a master yourself and others will be coming to pick your brain. But don't get caught up in the delusion of being a master, though, because a true master is always the best student first and continues that way until the very end.
Hmph, told you the straight up dope shizz, I have. Hmph (This was supposed be a Yoda imitation in print. How did I do?)
