I love Vonnegut and think Leo is a capable actor, sometimes downright good. This should be a pretty cool movie.

Minton's Vote for Best Director

by Uncle Josh

Most people prompted with the question of who the best director is will fire off Spielberg, Lucas, Coppola or Tarantino. These are each fine directors with a great catalog but for me it comes down to one guy--Cameron Crowe. Jerry Maguire is one of top three favorite movies of all time and Fast Times at Ridgemont High defined my youth.

I still find myself walking around doing hack quotes of Mike Demone ("That's the attitude, Rat, The attitude is that you don't care whether she comes, stays, lays or prays. No matter what happens, your toes are still tappin'.")

Vanilla Sky was whacked out but it was still good. Say Anything made John Cusack one of my favorite actors (Grosse Point Blank and High Fidelity sealed the deal).

So, Cameron Crowe, here's to you being one of the coolest and most talented writers and directors out there. I can't wait to see Elizabethtown this Christmas.

American Psycho Revisited

by Uncle Josh

I haven't read this book yet but I've seen the movie before and I just watched it again after being so impressed with Christian Bale's performance in Batman Begins. I have actually liked Bale since I saw him in Swing Kids back in the late 90s. But American Psycho is a very interesting movie in that it depicts the white American male at the peak of his power--the 1980s Wall Street stockbroker. The world was in the palms of their hands.

Patrick Bateman descends into homicidal madness in his own mind. At the end of the movie, one is left seeing no difference between if he had actually performed the murders himself or just entertained them to their grisley demise.

It is actually an improper artistic product in the Joycean sense. It is indicative of the level of violence that many of us approach the human beings around us every day. Most of us are good at sublimating these passionate antisocial tendencies but there are some of us that aren't--these people take actions that infringe upon other peoples' lives and properties of others should be removed from society indefinitely and sent away to do hard labor on interplanetary mining colonies that will be sprouting up in the near future.
